Technology in the Classroom

Picture
Today’s students are unlike previous generations.  They can’t sit still for an hour in math class, but are able to sit for hours playing video games.  They can’t memorize a list of 20 vocabulary words, but can repeat word for word their favorite songs.  With the heavy role that technology plays in our world today, it naturally makes sense to use it in the classroom.

Ten years ago “technology in the classroom” meant using an overhead and a calculator.  Five years ago “technology in the classroom” meant using a computer and a TV to display PowerPoint lessons.  Today “technology in the classroom” means using a smartboard, graphing calculators, laptops, and iPods.  Like anyone else, students need to connect with the material in order to learn from it.
